Water Law
Water…our most precious and life-sustaining resource. From Nevada’s rural agrarian communities to the fastest growing counties and cities in the country, it demands an experienced legal team dedicated to navigating the complex laws that govern its use, its ownership and overall management in our local communities, Nevada and beyond. For us at Kaempfer Crowell, it’s about developing innovative water management strategies and always seeking to devise solutions that benefit our clients in the short term, but also for our client’s long term well being, the well being of the State of Nevada and its ever growing population of over three million residents. After all, we live here too and have a vested interest in ensuring the sustainability of our most precious resource both now and for the future.
The Firm team regularly works with the State Engineer (Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources), the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the Las Vegas Valley Water District, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, the Public Utilities Commission, and various local governmental entities on behalf of clients on issues pertaining to water rights and resource management. These include various applications for surface and ground water rights, applications for changes in water rights, as well as protesting such applications, along with assisting clients in avoiding the forfeiture of water rights and placing the water to beneficial use.
We have experience in all the legal and administrative procedures and laws that stem from Title 48, the State’s guiding statute on water law, to the Truckee River Decree established in the 1800s.
